Who is Joe Darby?

Joe Darby was just an average American Soldier just a few years ago. Today he is known as the whistle blower for Abu Ghraib. Joe Darby didn't do anything wrong. He just told the truth. He blew the whistle, and sounded the bell on the inhumane treatment that was taking place inside of this heinous place. Now he's hated by many and has even been advised to never return to his real home town.
Some people this man a rat. Some, such as myself, solute him!
Joe Darby is a man who defended this country and as you know must constantly defend himself for doing what was right. In a video titled "You Can't Go Home Again" found on http://60minutes.yahoo.com/segment/61/abu_ghraib, another soldier says he would not choose the enemy over his buddies. This man is seen as a hero to some. So who do we salute?
The good ole boys of this country are saluting man number 2 because they know they can count on him to keep his mouth shut no matter what. As long as the person they are hurting is an "enemy". But what about the fact that these enemies are people? Doesn't that count for anything? Or was he absent the day that they taught compassion in kindergarten?
As much as our military teaches it's soldiers to be rocks and not show emotion, they need to realize the damage they are doing to these men and women also. It's a disservice. I know Bill Clinton signed Don't Ask, Don't Tell, but I don't think that torturing prisoners counts.
I'm really tired of excusing bad behavior. I'm tired of the arrogance of this country, especially within people of authority most of which are male. I don't think it's ok to be aggressive just because you are a man. I don't think it's okay to profile protesters just because they have an opinion as a way of strong arming the nation into submission. I don't like that our nation has become so obsessed with "stuff" that they don't have time to spend with their families. I don't like that more people will speak out AGAINST homosexuality than they will for the rape and torture of other human beings. I don't like that this country is always trying to control other countries into our beliefs or ways. We are the united states, not the United Nations.
There are so many people in our own country who are hurting and in need of medical care or housing and we can't afford to help them, but we can bully our own citizens into paying $4/gallon for gas for no legitimate reason. That we are forced to reach deeper and deeper into our own pockets to fund a war that was not only based on a lie, but very few of us ever wanted.
Pathetic!
